Shah Rukh Khan recently expressed that he has no familial ties to the film industry, referring to himself as a ‘semi-orphan’ and an ‘outsider’ in Bollywood. In a video posted by Walt Disney Studios India on Instagram, the actor discussed his role as Mufasa in the upcoming film Mufasa: The Lion King.
Shah Rukh Khan calls himself semi-orphan and outsider
In the clip, Shah Rukh Khan shared, “If I were to be unhumble and say, ‘Hann meri hi kahaani aisi hai’ (My story is also like this), it would fit. Technically, anyone who has lost their parents is an orphan. I lost my parents at a young age, so I consider myself a semi-orphan.”
He elaborated on his experience as an outsider, saying, “It’s the story of an outsider. No family of mine has been in the business of filmmaking. I moved from Delhi to Mumbai, so I’m also an outsider. It’s the story of the King. So yes, I consider myself a king.”
Shah Rukh also discussed the essence of Mufasa’s character, stating, “It’s a fascinating story about sacrifice, friendship, and loyalty. While dubbing for the film, I felt a wide range of emotions. I thought, ‘What a wonderful character. Kitna accha human being sher hai’ (What a nice human being, lion).”
In the Hindi version of Disney’s film, Shah Rukh lends his voice to Mufasa, while his son Aryan Khan voices Simba and AbRam voices the young Mufasa. The cast also includes Sanjay Mishra as Pumbaa, Shreyas Talpade as Timon, and Meiyang Chang as Taka.
Earlier, in a statement released by Disney, Shah Rukh revealed his connection to Mufasa, “Mufasa has an incredible legacy as the ultimate king of the jungle, imparting wisdom to his son, Simba. I relate deeply to him as a father and resonate with Mufasa’s journey in the film.” Mufasa: The Lion King is set to be released in cinemas on December 20 in English, Hindi, and Tamil.
